2.0 out of 5 stars Written in a rush - disappointing, 30 Dec. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: No Ordinary Life (Paperback)
When I heard about this book I bought it immediately as it sounded as though it would be a great read but unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations. It was as though it was written in a rush, something he originally wanted to do for his father but then it became a chore. What this soldier did was amazing but the detail was missing in the book. With research and contacting the other survivors to get more detail of what happened would have made all the difference. With waiting all those years before publishing I would thing that most of his comrades have died

Hi Chris, thanks for the feedback. I took a decision when writing this that it was his story as written by him. Somehow it felt wrong for me to be adding bits or putting my own slant on his story. It wasn't rushed and took a year to finally publish. Sorry you didn't enjoy it. Peter Stokes

Mr stokes, I think by adding bits you flesh out the story and put things into context for teh reader to a greater extent. expand where the original author does not if you can etc. If you want to keep the text as untouched as it seems you wanted to you can always add it in by showing an obvious seperation from his words and your own. somthing as simple as a font change can do the job. still buying the book though as My grandfather was 2 SAS and you never know, I might find somthing useful in my own research
