This review is from: Down To The Sea In Ships: Of Ageless Oceans and Modern Men (Hardcover)
Story about two voyages as passenger in Mearsk container ships. Stories from the past opportune for me, though other reviewers found this unnecessary. Seafaring hasn't changed in many respects since the age of sail: crew poorly paid, sea frightening and dangerous, etc. A sailor's base is his ship - though they seem to move from one to another quite frequently - and land is a different country. Very well written; the best length; lovely cover.
