One of the finest Death Metal albums of recent years,
This review is from: Stop At Nothing (Audio CD)
Dying Fetus are one of the very finest bands around at the moment who produce that very satisfying blend of technical Death Metal and Grindcore, creating something even more crushing than the sum of its parts. The opening track ‘Schematics’ starts with an awesome riff incorporating some wicked pinch harmonics (apologies if I’m getting a bit technical, it’s a method of making a note squeal whilst playing it, for want of a better description) that sounds very reminiscent of the intro of ‘Becoming’ by Pantera. However, if you think Pantera are heavy (which they are, fairly) and are expecting something a bit similar, just wait until you listen to this album in full. The first clue that it might be something a bit out of the ordinary is the fact that it is released by Relapse Records, home of some of the most evil and deranged Death and Grindcore on the planet. If you’ve got a decently powerful stereo, I recommend cranking up the mid-paced section in the middle of the second song ‘One Shot One Kill’. There’s a strong danger it might take your head clean off your shoulders. The entire album is an awesome display of some of the finest extreme metal available today, and if you’re into bands of the ilk of Cryptopsy, Morbid Angel or Vader, you need to buy this album straight away. It combines the best elements of all of those bands and blends it into something even harder, faster, more controlled and even more crushing, and it is quite simply awesome.
