Great climbing scenes, and a nice sense of the period. Like other reviewers I thought the film put over very well the contrast between the comfort of the people in the hotels and the poor blokes climbing on the mountain only a short distance away. And it was interesting getting the political / nationalist element to climbing at the time. However, although the actors were excellent, weren't they all a bit old? Part of the poignancy of all the harrowing tales of the North Face comes from how desperately young the climbers were. And as for the fictional Luise: I wish she'd never appeared at all, but if she HAS to, for goodness sake keep her off the mountain! There were other fictionalised bits, and none of them were better than the simple truth. The true story is gripping and moving enough without "improving" it.
But despite these gripes, this film's well worth buying and watching, if only to publicise the story of these lads.
