Waulking like an Egypian (o.k. Scottish),
This review is from: From Wool to Waulking: Spinning Wool and Creating Cloth with Norman Kennedy (DVD)
No review is going to come near doing this presentation justice. Lots of clear close-ups from various directions.
I have several DVD's and books by Norman Kennedy. You might want to look him up on the net as the DVD does not tell his whole story.
This package actually contains two disks; disk 1: 1 hour, 25 minutes; disk 2: 1 hour, 31 minutes.
. Oil wool for carding
. Used hand cards to prepare rolls and batts
. Dress and spin with distaff
. Create Shetland-style lace yarn
. Spin with a variety of spindles, a treadle wheel, and a great wheel
A bonus is naturel dye techniques.
I was not aware that you needed to oil the wool before spinning.
When I was learning to weave I was not aware of using a temple.
So what may be common knowledge to some people can be discovered without embarrassment on this presentation.
What really make this fascinating are the stories and comments.
