Calling all Rockpile fans,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Juppanese (Audio CD)
His songs have been recorded by Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds, so it's fitting that Mickey Jupp should be backed on the first half of this album by their band, Rockpile. Jupp is one of the unsung heroes of British R&B and his gift for imaginative, humorous and poignant songwriting is evident across the whole of this album.
The humour is exemplified on the infectious "Old Rock And Roller" while all of his qualities combine on the brilliant slower number, "School". This is also the only album I know that uses the words "monosodium glutamate" (and he uses them as a rhyme).
On the second half he is produced and backed by Gary Brooker, another musician to have covered a Jupp song. With Chris Spedding on guitar this has a slightly harder sound but is no less effective.
"Juppanese" is R&B of the highest quality throughout and I thoroughly recommend it.
