This review is from: The Last Secret Of The Temple (Mass Market Paperback)
Paul Sussman is one of the best writers whose books I have recently taken to. Sussman is a brilliant writer and his research and the depth of the novel must be highly commended. Sussmans two current novels are both based in Muslim countries which is refreshing from all the current books of which many are based mostly in America.
Sussmans main hero Yusuf Khalifa an Egyptian police inspector is a fantastic character who you sympathise with greatly which for me is one of the most important things in a novel. The strength of his characters, setting, plot and research go a long way to making this a brilliant novel.
The only problem is that in Last Secret Sussman seems to try too hard to give the readers what they want which is of course for many something in the mould of Da Vinci. This makes it a bit difficult to enjoy fully as it made it feel like the story was not his own. None the less its a brilliant read but not as good as The Lost Army of Cambyses which is well worth the money and should definitely be priority over Last Secret, get them both read Lost Army second like desert after dinner.
