What happened here, then?,
This review is from: Play to Kill (Hardcover)
Thank goodness I was given this book and did not waste my money, as I was planning to do. It seems we've waited a very long time for this release and, like many others, I was expecting a great follow-on read. Not so. Not so at all. In fact, it seems to have been written by a mal-adjusted computer instead of the usually very reliable mother and daughter team.
Given the very badly constructed plot, the lack of involvement by our regular `good guys' and a storyline which goes absolutely nowhere sensibly, leaves me wondering why anybody bothered. The characters are unbelievable, their actions and attitudes are incomprehensible; it's all the more galling since the previous stories have been gripping, tense, leaving the reader wanting more.
I really hate to mark down a book from a topline team but both the authors and the editorial team should step back and think again if they are going to keep their loyal readers, especially those who would normally buy a hardback. I couldn't give it 1-1/2 marks and, on reflection, it wasn't quite as bad as another book I recently reviewed, so I rounded it up. Nonetheless, I've given this book away to a charity shop. I hope they don't charge for it either.
