Welcome To Alice Cooper's greatest album!,

This review is from: Welcome to My Nightmare (Audio CD)
This must be Alice Cooper's best album, containing some of the most disturbing lyrics and music he has ever written.
This 1975 release contains some wonderful songs. Welcome To My Nightmare combines a jazzy approach to hard rock with a dark set of lyrics, producing a mysterious and threatening song. Devil's Food, though short on music, is highly amusing. After the musical section of this track, there is a spoken intro to The Black Widow, containing some wonderful lines ("Oh, she IS delicious...and i hope he was..."). The Black Widow itself is a superbly dark song with a quite disturbing sound.
Other songs which must be mentioned include Only Women Bleed (although you wouldn't think it would fit with the rest of the album, it actually works wonderfully, creating a slight break between the dark and menacing tracks at the start, and the more humourous and light tracks towards the end), Cold Ethyl (a superb song, one of his best, with some hilarious lines ["She's cool in bed...yeah, she oughta be, 'cause Ethyl's dead!!"] and a really bizarre subject [necrophilia]), and (of course) Steven, the classically disturbing song, with some quite influential voices-in-the-head!!
If you want to experience Alice Cooper at his greatest, this is the album for you. It is a wonderful basis for other albums of his, although none of them will quite measure up to this pinnacle of his musical career.
