This review is from: The Ladykillers [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
The most celebrated and revered of the legendary Ealing Studios comedies, The Ladykillers deals with a disparate group of thieves attempting to pull off that one big job with what they think is a full-proof plan. They have a sweet old lady to vouch for their every move, but she is not quite as easily fooled as they believe, and when she learns of their plan, the gang begin to fall apart.
Loaded with personality projected by all-around great performances and directed with confidence and understated style, The Ladykillers is a true classic that even the Coen brothers failed to match with their disappointing remake. The film has an endearingly old-fashioned and very English sense of right and wrong, with the sweet old lady (played by the charming Katie Johnson) at one end of the spectrum, and the gang at the other (lead be Alec Guinness but also featuring great turns from Peter Sellers and Herbert Lom).
A link to a golden age for British film, The LadyKillers is still tremendous entertainment and essential for anyone who loves comedy and classic British cinema.
