Accurate, concise and deeply shocking.,
This review is from: Israeli Apartheid: A Beginner's Guide (Paperback)
Please, whatever you do, ignore the shameful 1 star reviews that have appeared so far for this book. Do not be fooled by this woeful zionist propoganda. This book is a stunning piece of work that concisely summarises the Palestinian tragedy. Ben White has clearly gone to great lengths to research and compile the case against Israel and their barbaric government.
The usual insults of anti-semitic are always thrown at people like Ben White but to those of us that look at the situation for what it is, such inane accusations hold no water. I am not an Israeli, nor Jewish nor a Palestinian. All I am is someone who longs for justice, and the Palestinian tragedy demands justice more than anything else. Just a little bit of research, and it is clear that Ben White has done a lot, into the history of Palestine (750,000 Palestinians expelled by 1949 with over 400 Palestinian villages destroyed) reveals the true extent of the etnic cleansing that has occured.
Sir Gerald Kaufman, an MP in the British Parliament, is a Jew and was bought up as a zionist. However in a recent debate in parliament, after explaining that his grandmother had been shot in her bed by a Nazi, he had this to say "My grandmother did not die to provide cover for Israeli soldiers murdering Palestinian grandmothers in Gaza. The present Israeli government ruthlessly and cynically exploits the continuing guilt from gentiles over the slaughter of Jews in the Holocaust as justification for their murder of Palestinians." He conluded that the Israeli government "are not simply war criminals, they're fools."
Read this book with an open mind and you will be left stunned by what has actually happened to an entire nation.

Yes but quite clearly this book is not accurate. What about the dreadful false quotation attributed to Ben Gurion (see Hoffman's detailed review)? Doesn't that give you pause for thought? And before you dismiss this as part of the dreaded conspiracy you allude to, I'm not Jewish so you can calm down...a bit...

S Wood says:
Idiotic posting from Avalon (again) - the author of the review has neither accused you of being Jewish, suggested it was a bad thing if you were and neither needs to calm down. Do pay attention.

Benjamin P. Wing says:
I have to say, the posters who point out the polarized 1 vs. 5 star reviews are exactly right in noting that this is characteristic of a polemic. Mr. White takes an extremist point of view and attempts to justify it through cherry-picking. Any discussion of the Palestinians who fled Israel is inevitably biased without presenting the context:
1. 900,000 Jews -- who had lived in Arab countries just as long as the Palestinians -- were forced out during the same time period and had to seek refuge in Israel. Where are all the bleeding-heart Europeans complaining about the horrid treatment of all of THESE refugees, who even now make up the bottom 50% of Israeli society?
2. Any comparison of the Jewish vs. Palestinian refugees screams out an answer to the question, Why didn't any Arab country take in the Palestinians, like Israel took in the Jews? Answer: The Arabs purposely wanted a weapon against Israel and were willing to sacrifice their own people to get this. Where are the bleeding-heart Europeans complaining about the terrible treatment of Palestinians by other Arabs?
3. During the same time period, 10 MILLION Germans were made refugees and their land stolen by the Poles (themselves refugees from land farther to the east, stolen by the Russians, who already had far more land than they knew what to do with). 1 million Greeks were forcibly ejected from Turkey. 400,000 Turks were forcibly ejected from Greece. 1 million or so Assyrians were ejected and often slaughtered by the Turks and now live in horrible precariousness. There are tons of other examples. Why do the bleeding-hearts focus ONLY on Israeli treatment of Palestinians and conveniently ignore all other issues, many of which are in much more dire need of attention?
