This review is from: The Fear Index (Paperback)
What has become of Robert Harris. After a string of great books (Fatherland, Enigma and Archangel) then some not so great books (imperium and Lustrum) The Fear Index is truly awful. The plot is plodding, uninteresting and never picks up any momentum. After reading two thirds of the book I was still wondering when anything interesting was going to happen. Nothing ever does and the end is only rewarding because it means that the drudgery is over. The characters are so simplified they are nothing more than cliches and the financial and computing information seems to have been sprinkled throughout the book to try and numb the reader into respect for this terrible story. The relevance of the detail is not obvious, is never explained and just seems to be the author showing off.
I really hope Roberts Harris's next book picks up as this is atrocious and a disgrace to his name.
