3 years old!

Really!!

You may choose to buy your child/relative The Batman or Batman: The Brave & The Bold on UK region 2 compatible DVDs as a starting point. That's more a 3 year olds pace and not too violent or dark.

Do try to understand the intended audience for a product before posting such a negative review.

Most people [of a certain age] consider The Animated Series (1992-1999) THE definitive approach to animated Batman if not the most intelligent take on the character in film or television.

Maybe it's a generational thing?? I grew up watching this series and absolutely loved it, I was 11 years old at the time this premiered on ITV in the UK. Try Batman: The Animated Series again when he's a little older (maybe 8-10 years old).

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0346578/

For a younger audience I'd recommend The Batman (2004-2008), Batman: The Brave & The Bold (2008-2011) or perhaps Teen Titans (2003-2006).

The Batman

The Batman: The First Season (2 Disc Edition) [DVD] [2006]

Batman: The Brave & The Bold
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1213218/

This has the first few episodes of The Brave & the Bold - try before you commit to it. I don't own the later episodes on R2 be careful. I cannot advise you on British DVDs any further. By the looks of it though the three USA sets I recommended cover UK volumes 01-08.

Batman - The Brave And The Bold Vol. 1 [DVD] [2009]

Those two are UK region 2 PAL DVDs.

In terms of Region 1 imports that DO play here (actually coded to play on R1, 2, 3 & 4 licenced devices), you could always try Teen Titans (2003-2006) & its straight to video film Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo (2006).

If your relative enjoys them the rest of The Batman (2004-2008) can be imported. I own them and can say my DVDs even though they say region 1 are coded for regions 1, 2, 3 & 4 & are in American NTSC format. There were five seasons in total & the straight to video film The Batman vs. Dracula (2005).

The Batman vs. Dracula

To save on shelf space you may wish to import the first 38 episodes of Batman: The Brave & The Bold (2008-2011) on USA DVD as well (to a point).

Batman: The Brave & The Bold
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1213218/

Please note: Brave & The Bold S1 PT1, S1 PT2 & S2 PT1 are Region 2 compatible NTSC discs. The two remaining volumes from America Batman: The Brave & The Bold Season 2 Part 2 & Batman: The Brave & The Bold Season 3 are coded for DVD regions 1, 3 & 4 and DO NOT PLAY IN STANDARD REGION 2 PLAYERS!! Do be careful. I will not be held responsible for compatibility issues. Importing is always a risk.

The Batman (2004-2008) DVDs not available in the UK (season 5 is essentially a kid-friendly Justice League) -

The Batman Season 2
Product Link: Batman: Complete Second Season [DVD] [2006] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Season 3
Batman: Complete Third Season [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Season 4
Batman: Complete Fourth Season [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Season 5
Batman: Complete Fifth Season [DVD] [2008] [Region 1] [NTSC]

The Batman vs. Dracula - The Movie [watch this yourself before letting a 3 year old see it]

Product Link: Batman Vs Dracula [DVD] [2005] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Teen Titans Season 1 - try it if you wish.

Remember, if you are unsure then play it safe and stay clear of the imports. Some people are less confident with foreign non-UK content.

As a general guide roughly 90% of WHV USA/Canada NTSC format DVDs use the following rule if you know the ORIGINAL release date of the SPECIFIC EDITION you seek:
1997-2001 Region 1 Only.
2002-2011 Regions 1, 2, 3 & 4 (with a few new releases being exceptions to the rule - not many).
2012-Onwards Regions 1, 3 & 4

As a parent, guardian or relative of a young child you should probably avoid recent Warner Premier DCU animated movies as they tend to be aimed at teenagers not very young children.

Best of luck to you.

The information below does not cover the complete series due to 2012 DVD region code lock-out (now regions 1, 3 & 4 for DVD). May still be of value to UK buyers. Note: A multi-region player is required if you wish to continue with later volumes/half season sets/seasons from America.

Batman: The Brave & The Bold - three collections released before the end of February 2012 - 38 episodes total - 6 discs - 2 per Eco-box case.

Brave & The Bold Season 1, Part 1, 13 Episodes

Batman: Brave & The Bold - Season One Part One [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Season 1, Part 2, 13 Episodes - mine included a set of free stickers inside the box.

Batman: Brave & The Bold - Season One Part Two [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Season 2, Part 1, 12 Episodes [Final WHV USA DVD set in the series to be Region 2 coded]

Batman: Brave & The Bold - Season Two Part One [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

There are too many links in this post so here is another attempt to correct the problem:

Teen Titans: Complete First Season [DVD] [2005] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Batman: Brave & The Bold - Season One Part One [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Batman: Brave & The Bold - Season One Part Two [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Batman: Brave & The Bold - Season Two Part One [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Batman Vs Dracula [DVD] [2005] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Batman: Complete Second Season [DVD] [2006] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Batman: Complete Third Season [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

Batman: Complete Fourth Season [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

BATMAN: COMPLETE FIFTH SEASON

Again, good luck to you.

Ok??

I just feel that these days children don't really want well written scripts or memorable characters, action and explosions and lots of bright colours - that'll do! Besides 3 years old did seem awfully young to fully appreciate Batman: The Animated Series. I still say those other shows are a better place to start for someone so young. We can of course hope that in a few years the attention span of the child has increased as well - which would definitely help matters!

If you liked that, then you'll love this list (in the comments under the review):
