Underwhelming start for Campbell and Carter,
This review is from: Mud, Muck and Dead Things (Campbell and Carter) (Hardcover)
Having enjoyed Ann Granger's previous books featuring Mitchell and Markby, Fran Varady and Lizzie Martin I was looking forward to reading this new book, introducing a new pair of sleuths - Campbell and Carter.
I found the slightly menacing front cover appealing too, but should have heeded the old cliche about "not judging a book by it's cover" as I'm sorry to say that I didn't enjoy it as much as I had anticipated. Jess as a character didn't really come alive for me at all and the story felt weak and rather cobbled together. Hopefully, as this is just the first book in what I presume will be a new series, things will improve, but I doubt it will win any new fans for the writer, although I'll stick with it and remain hopeful that the next book won't let me down.
