Fantastic content marred a little by design and print quality,
This review is from: Gastrogeek: What to eat when you're in a hurry, hungry or hard up (Paperback)
Just as I'd expected, as a long time fan of Rejina's blog of the same name, the recipes in this book are fantastic. An eclectic range of dishes with influences from around the world, they are a perfect reflection of how many of like to cook today.
I like her fun idea to present the content as solutions to common kitchen dilemmas, just like the photostory magazines which teenage girls used to read for advice on dilemmas of the heart. I think the design theme has been taken a little too far and am particularly unenthusiastic about the green cover and the Comic Sans-like font inside. The print quality of the images isn't great either, the black and white ones in particular are way too dark.
BUT I implore you to look past the design, if you're a bit unsure about it, because the recipes are fantastic.
My husband and I made the aubergine mac cheese and we were genuinely blown away by how Rejina's simple changes to this classic dish could lift it so far above the ordinary.
I have a whole list of other recipes bookmarked and am very much looking forward to trying them.
