Eluveitie are a swiss band that forge metal and folk and celtic melodies and instruments into one big boiling pot and this their second album is the results of such a gathering, and it is a feast worth dining on readers.
The band play melodic death metal much like amon amarth to name just one band but add alot more melody and that is found with a very clear celtic influence, there are panpipes, the hurdy-gurdy,tin whistle and bodhran and female vocals that are mildly haunting.
The use of celtic sounds work perfectly and are used prominently, and add something else to a sound thats all to familiar these days, that being melodic death metal.
As i have compared the band to amon amarth i feel i must take away the notion that this band are as fast and urgent as the swedes, they arent, but they have the same way of stirring emotions and bring images to the mind, those as i am who are irish can feel a kinship with this band easily,it makes one feel patriotic and proud but all the while this is metal and that makes me happy as well,i dont listen to irish ceile music as we call it really but here in a form with metal i have found a great band.
There are a couple of instrumentals fired in that work and dont work but ultimatley there is little to fault here, the songs dont rattle about lasting so long that you wish you could die, they are all 5 minutes and under more or less and the final album track is a mantra almost that is a real classic sounding track, vital?yeah why not,but i am not wishing for every metal band to sound like this, lets not overkill this unique sound.
