What a genuinely enjoyable comedy film this is. Sid James is as ever, perfect as the Dad who thinks he rules the roost but actually, doesn't.Not by a long chalk. The excellent Diana Coupland as Sid's wife and Sally Gleeson and Robin Askwith as his kids, are all wonderful in this too. It's got illicit home brewing, it's got the brilliant Terry Scott as a snooty neighbour, it's got forbidden romance and generation gap jokes galore,it's got blokes going down the pub before Sunday dinner (like my Dad and Grandad used to) to put the world to rights and it's got a soundtrack that wouldn't go amiss in a Carry On film (hardly surprising given who wrote the music and who directed and produced the film).
All in all then, it's a marvellous bit of escapism and is a hugely enjoyable comedy film.
