A Dissapointing New Direction For A Great Band,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Glorious Burden (Ltd.) (Audio CD)
Yes i am a massive iced earth fan, but a fan of their earlier works (i own them all). This album's a stinker and is only saved by Gettysburg being the masterpiece that it is (32mins long). All other songs here are boring, repetitive, obvious and cringingly patriotic. 'When The Eagle Cries' is TERRIBLE it is hailed as a masterpiece but do me a favour and listen first to Dante's Inferno (Burnt Offerings), A Question Of Heaven (A Dark Saga), Pure Evil and Travel In Stygian (Night Of The Stormrider) and the 'Something Wicked This Way Comes' album. Thats real music, thats iced earth ate their best and thats what you should be listening to instead of this drivel. I would have given no stars but for Gettysburg, parts of Waterloo and the fact that the band is Iced Earth. Iced Earth are at their best with their brand of heavy-power metal, that is crushing guitar from Schaffer, furious rhythmn, and emotional vocals from MATT BARLOW the former and best ever iced earth (and metal) vocalist. This album isn't reflective, original or progressive its just boring. Please come back Matt!!! Ripper doesnt cut it for me...
Also... check out the works of Opeth, In Flames, Sepultura (old wit max) and some vintage metal e.g iron maiden/judas priest/older metallica, slayer are reccomended also.
Final word: Please don't waste your money on this, save it for 'something wicked', 'night of the stormrider' and 'burnt offerings', 'horror show' also if you're feelin generous...
