An overview of a great life.,

This review is from: Emperor of Industry: Lord Armstrong of Cragside (Paperback)
This little book gives a taste of the attainments of Sir William Armstrong, but it is a very small book for such a sweeping subject and a wide ranging life. It features many interesting pictures and covers the essentials including his creation of Cragside, his Northumberland moorland house. As a never ending succession of superficial TV history programmes never tire of telling us, Cragside was the first house in the world to be lit by electricity.
But there's much more to find out about Amrstrong: If you really want to get to know the man and find out the true depth of his greatness, I suggest that Henrietta Heald's book William Armstrong: Magician of the North might serve you better.
There is also an older book about Armstrong, one that I'm afraid I like less (though, as ever, your opinion may differ). That one is now out of print but used copies are widely available, and that is: W.G. Armstrong: The Life and Times of Sir William George Armstrong, Baron Armstrong of Cragside
All three books have value, but for those who would wish to know more about Baron Armstrong of Cragside, I would recommend this one as the entry point followed by the Heald book.
