Power metal to its best state,
This review is from: Glorious (Audio CD)
Glorious is the forth album created by Wolfcry released by the Painkiller Records. All the recordings took place at the Devasoundz Studio and the mixing of the album took place by Foti Benado (Septic Flesh, ex-Nightrage). The production of the album happened by Foti Benado and also by Wolfcry. Finally the mastering of the album took place at the "Jailhouse Studios" by Tommy Hansen (who has previously done work for Helloween, Pretty Maids, Stormwarrior etc...).
More into the album now, well by listening to the album from the first time I was amazed by the quality of the sound and the compositions of each song. Here we have an album that is 100% pure Metal towards Power Metal. Each song is placed in the correct order that allows each song to glow to its maximum value.
The album open up with the catchy tone "God Of Deception", great opening riff followed by Costa's high pitch scream and having great drum patterns with some keyboard touches here and there. "Fadin' Visions" is similar to the "God Of Deception" song, but in a slower tempo, with more power and anger, and the chorus is freaking amazing! Personally this is one of my favourite songs of the album.
"Holocaust Of Nothing", I love the name of this song and the song is even greater. Note: check the musical change at the 0.25 seconds!!! Then the song has the typical 100% Wolfcry stamp. Double vocal lines at the chorus, great drumming, great guitar riffs and solos. What else do you want?
"Consequence Of Ignorance" another great title. Here we have the typical battlefield intro followed by an amazing drumming and guitar riffs. Costas does a fantastic job here with his voice (in some places it feels like I am listening to "Mordy" from Domine). Nice mellow chorus with great guitar solos! Once this song finished I press the previous button to listen to it again to get transferred into the battlefield.
"The Golden Era" opens up with great catchy tones, patched up with great riffs here and there. This is a slower tempo song. Once again Costas does a great job with his voice. The chorus of the song is great, mellow and dramatic all at the same time. The background vocals are doing a fantastic job. Be prepared for an amazing guitar solo. The female vocals singing along Costas does a fantastic job. The whole song is built up in a way that will take your breath away.
"Payback Time" and here we have a typical Power Metal song. High pitch and darker vocal lines, fast guitar solos, great double kick drumming. Warning don't play this song while you driving probably you will end up with a few speeding tickets.
"Vile Mind": This is a great Power Metal tone, with higher and slower tempos. Costas does his amazing weird dark voice and gives the song a whole new level. The guitar solo is performed in to the slower tempo side of the song, the guitar sounds will transfer you to a whole new other place and once they are finished the song explodes to the faster side of it. A great song, it will be stuck in you head for a long time.
"Face The Fear": Heads of with a nice slower tempo that explodes into your face and your head is headbanging without even thinking about it. Then the song slows down and picks ups and then it drops down again. Once again I have no words for the guitar solo!!!
"I, The Sinner": This is the last song of the album and the longest one in the album. The song starts of in a low tempo and as it goes one it picks up a bit each minute when it reaches to the point that you are listening to a pure Power Metal song. All the band members are playing their socks off. This one song has the entire above element (Darker voice, female vocals, keyboard touches, etc...) implanted into this song.
This is a fantastic album, pure Wolfcry album. Each band member has performed their role to its full extend and they all end up creating an amazing album. I have to say I am so proud that this album is written and performed by Greek musicians, this one worth's having into your collection.
