This review is from: Blacksys CW-100 Single In Car Camera CCTV DVR Driving Recorder (Electronics)
I tried one of the really cheap dashcams and whilst it worked it was quite bulky so it wasn't easy to place it out of the way and video quality was poor despite being "HD".
The design of this device means that you can position it behind the rear view mirror with the bottom half (LEDs and event button) showing making it almost invisible to the drive and not taking up any windscreen space. The supplied power cable is plenty long enough to route under the headlining of the car and around the door frame to a power point located by the handbrake on my car. It was nice to see a memory card included in the box as it means you don't have to go and buy one. I have got a 32gb card and will use that just to enable files to be kept longer. I'm assuming that the device just overwrites files as the card gets filled up but have yet to test this.
Fitting the device is pretty simple though the supplied sticky pad sticks straight away so have a practice at where you are positioning it before using the pad. As I said, wiring it in was easy and then add the memory card. Formatting the card on board should mean that you have the correct file structure and all you do is press the button and plug the power supply in and after a few seconds the device beeps and it will format the card. My car power supply is always on so the camera will be too so I may need to see if there is a switched supply rather than it being always on.
So far I have only used it on some short journeys and it seems to work fine. The quality isn't stunning but if you just want to record events then this should be adequate. The view is quite wide so you get the road and either side of it too, I an playing with the setting of the video (which is done through the downloadable software) to see if that makes any difference. I couldn't read number plates of cars on the video I have checked so far. Sound is recorded as default and quality is sufficient to hear what is going on. The G-Sensor works OK with the bump going onto my drive enough to trigger and event.
The software can be downloaded from the Blacksys site and functions OK. It isn't completely intuitive to use but it works OK. You can also adjust device settings which are saved to a configuration file. You can switch audio recording on/off, adjust the G-Sensor sensitivity, parking time on/off/duration and the parking light on/off, time zone, frame rate, resolution, camera dark/normal/bright and finally quality normal/fine/super fine.
So far so good. It is out of the way and does what I want it to for a very good price.
I have added the module to the device and that works really well. In addition to showing your location it also shows your speed and that certainly seemed to be accurate and compared favourably to other satnav devices I was using and the car speedo. Having used it for a few days now I am finding it does exactly what I want at a reasonable price.
