Outstanding Deep House,
This review is from: Primitive Arts (Audio CD)
I can't believe how underrated this album is. Everyone in the techno/deep house scene knows about Ron Trent as he was the one who produced the all time classic 'Altered States' single back in the early 1990's when he was very young.
But when he finally returned to the scene with this, his debut album for the wonderful Peacefrog label, not many people cared to notice that this was in fact a superb album full of deep house grooves, elements of soul (piano, the vocals) and great production. It just seemed to slide out of view and now is forgotten.
I wouldn't say it's a classic album by any means, they are few and far between to say the least. So it comes down to the fact that it is a well produced and musically thought out album. Ron Trent cares about and thinks about his music and it shows on the material on the album.
In a time like today when well thought out and carefully produced music is at a premium, then this album counts for so much.
It is reminiscent of all that was/is good about the Chicago Deep House music scene. It's wonderful music without the overbearing and hollow shrieks of 'disco-divas' that so many deep house producers now litter their music with.
Take time out to have a listen to this. It's relaxing and enchanting.
