unlike the previous novel BEFORE DISHONOUR, this was way too slow for me, which i don,t expect for a novel featuring the borg. way too much talking inbetween the battles, and the battles were so quick, they were over almost as soon as they began. the new race encountered by the enterprise was interesting, but their complacency towards the borg became a bit tiresome after a while.
guinan served no purpose other than to offer her usual sage advice, which picard doesn,t really need at this point in his career, and HUGH, the borg encountered by the enterprise in the tv episode I BORG, seems to have been brought in just to sacrifice himself, and give the crew a method for dealing with the borg.
i could have done without the endless conversations about babies and family, especially between picard and beverly. it seemed like i was reading a soap opera at times, rather than a star trek book.
