2.0 out of 5 stars Path of Neo - so much potential, 14 Nov. 2005
This review is from: The Matrix: Path of Neo (Xbox) (Video Game)
When i first played the previous matrix title Enter the Matrix i was really impressed by the fluidity of the action and accessibility. Although it wasnt perfect as a game it had so much potential with work to be an absolute winner.
Fans of the previous title will no doubt rush out to buy this new game as you get to follow the path of the one. I myself was a really big fan of the first so didnt hesitate in purchasing this new title. Man was i wrong!!!!
There are some good points, like the graphics for example and some of the moves you can pull off are totally awsome. BUT and this is a very big BUT, the game is flawed from the start with so many annoying factors that you cant even overlook them and enjoy the game for what it is. The comabt system is absolutly diabolical now and you are literally forced to button bash the Y key over and over again. In the previous title you could reverse/counter and dodge with X then hit Y for some heavy combos. Neo sometimes has a mind of his own and wont even respond when you give him a command. He never punches in the correct direction largly due to possible the most annoying camera system since Men in black for the PS1.
The special moves again pretty much require button bashing and because his moves are so out of sync with your controls you find you have no idea what you just told him to do!!!
How can Atari after getting it so right with enter the matrix not just build on this, why add such a stupid control system and the worst bullit time in the world. You press the L trigger to go into this mode and the world slows down......or does it. I dont know i cant tell! because the screen looks exactly the same i.e. no indication atall of when your in it or indeed when he comes out of it.
I could go on and on picking this game apart, its good in parts but massively flawed in others. Get ready to buy a new pad cos your old one will be busted after you smash it on the floor in pure frustration.
Finally the voice over for Keano Reeves sounds more like Jimmy Reeves. Nuff Said
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME get ninja gaiden instead or even play enter the matrix again.
