This review is from: The Expendables 2 [DVD] (DVD)
The plot is as daft as a brush but there's loads of bang for your buck as the gang take on Van Damme's crime lord. The plot is supermodel thin, Van Damme interrupts the gangs recovery of an electronic map so he can pinch a shed load of plutonium hidden deep in a mine. The script spends seconds on character development and uses a cringeworthy plot device previously lampooned years ago in the top gun parody hot shots (I'm thinking of the deadmeat character). I live on action pictures but this movie feels like a tired excuse for big bangs and really poor dialogue. The lines given to Arnie and Willis are even more of a hindrance and neither of them look comfortable. Norris does manage to raise a wry smile as the mysterious Booker, although his intro music is just plain silly. For once, Van Damme comes off rather well whilst Scott Adkins does a good clone of Gary Daniels from the first one.
