Enjoyed it mostly, a bit unconvincing.,

Interesting, though a bit turgid in places. I somehow got the feeling that some elements of the argument were being presented as if they'd occurred to the authors as they were going along, when in fact, the conclusions that were being drawn only made sense in terms of the argument as a whole and these particular elements were actually being interpreted after the fact, in order to strengthen their case. I don't know why it seemed like that - perhaps some of the conclusions that they seemed to think were the most probable given the evidence didn't seem to me to be probable at all! Despite this, I enjoyed it on the whole, and I actually felt like I'd learnt something - about European history if nothing else!
