This review is from: Scalextric G1072 Team GB Velodrome 2012: Track Cycling 1:64 Scale Race Set (Toy)
Our daughter is mad on olympics, so we bought this team GB velodrome set for her, luckily not paying the full £70 RRP (we paid £19.99, I think it was too much).
Her first race against Grandad lasted about 2 minutes before grandads 'bike' came off the track, and the very thin plastic connecting the bike to the 'car' snapped. About 30 seconds later my daughters bike came off, and did exactly the same - I'd say a total of 3 minutes running and both bikes are broken.
The design is so ridiculous, its clearly been deliberately made to break easily, the back of the bike is hooked over a peg, if the front was the same, then the bike would just fall off in a crash, and could be clipped back on easily, instead a very thin plastic strip from the bottom of bike is screwed to the car, this very thin piece snaps very easily, and cannot easily be mended as its too thin to glue.
If this was Scalextric attempt to get non-car interest, its a huge error. I suspect they have designed this as a collectable item, knowing 99% of these will be broken and landfilled, so in 20 years time the few remaining sets will have some value.
