Does its job - be aware of warranty terms
, 20 Dec. 2012
It removes a lots of humidity, works really well. It is quite silent on slow fan speed, getting noisier on high speed. From mechanical point of view, the fan is not perfectly balanced, so you can feel a bit of shaking and rumbling. Probably a redesign of the bearings or an extra balancing during manufacturing would make this product even better. However I bought it with 5yrs warranty, so I am sure I will have a working dehumidifier for long time.
Be aware of the difference between "repair" and "service" in Meaco's term!!!!
After 2 winters, the unit became dusty as filter is really ineffective. First the vent alarm started flashing (warn of overheat) more and more often. After some time this winter the fault alarm came, the unit stopped. You can reset that by unplugging the device. I tried to vacuum whatever i could, but it didn't help - there is no way to clean the internals unless the unit is disassembled.
The fault alarm happened more and more often too, at some point the unit could run only for half an hour.
I contacted customer service. First advice they gave: clean the drain trunk with an ear bud and blow the unit with a hairdryer (sound very professional, isn't it?). Hairdryer removed some dust (do it outside!), when i turned the unit on, there was a burning smell, and after a day running now it seems to be better. Still creaking on low speed fan setting though.
And here is the twist: customer service differentiates between "service" and "repair". They say to clean the dust from dehumidifier disc (the rotating dessicant disc) they charge £20 (they claim this is a discount from £70!) and they consider this as "service" and it is not considered as "repair". What?
I am waiting for feedback on warranty term clarification from them.
