i think i must be going mad.
i read the discription of the DVD version of AVATAR & thought WOW i cant wait to get my hands on this little package.
Iwent out & bought this 2 day & thought whoever looks through these discs at AMAZON should have gone to SPECKSAVERS.
The 3 versions of this BRILLIANT film are actually split over the 1st 2 discs.
Thats the 1st half of each film on disc 1 & the 2nd half of each film on disc 2.
I'm sure this has been done for the max picture & sound quality & my god they look & sound supberb.
And on the 3rd disc are the extras butt knowhere near the amount that AMAZON seem to mention.
As i dont own the BLU-RAY version i have a funny feeling that the discription for the DVD that AMAZON have printed are for the BLU-RAY version.

Yes, this is the case and, for anyone interested, has also been discussed in another comment thread - Amazon UK have been aware of this for about half a week, but have yet to change the product description. Terribly dodgy of them...

Thank god I did not buy it then, and I donīt want to buy a blue-ray player only because all extras are on that version. Stupid if you ask me

Same here. i almost bought this movie in my last orders during x-mass. Nut seeing that the BR version has more, I removed it from my order. And I am not going to buy a BR player for 1 movie.
Also, as an owner of the 1 disc version I think it is a rip-off that they release 1 year later a new version and a 3d version. I am sure they will release a FINAL version next year as more an more people will have a 3d player.
But what I hate the most is that AMAZON just mixes all the comments of all versions together. If you donīt watch out, you think you buy one GOOD version and in fact it is the simple version! A Shame!!

Can somebody help me out here please? My son wants me to order the Avatar Extended Collectors Editon for him because it's the cheapest one Amazon are selling (he's 12 and this is with some birthday money). Is this the same Avatar film that was being shown in cinemas or just parts of it? Help!!!!!

Hey, this is the extended version, and has three copies of the film: the one you probably saw in the cinema c.December 2009, the extended one shown in the cinema c.September 2010, and an even longer extended one. All three are there, easy as pie. BUT be warned: this set has limited special features. Get the Blu-Ray if you want the masses of special features (though this does have quite a bit anyway! Deleted scenes, feature length documentary etc.)

D. Dove - Thanks for clarifying the situation. I am not big on having the "extras", I just want the best version of the film available on DVD (I don't have a blu-ray player) so from what you say I will have the extended version if I buy the more expensive DVD version. Thanks again! :)

No problem. This is indeed currently the best DVD version available by way of feature length.
If anyone's interested, iTunes has recently seen the release of Avatar in HD with iTunes Extras, including an interactive 'point-and-hover' green screen reveal extra.
