An interseting compilation,
This review is from: The Best Of 1990-2000 (2CD) (Audio CD)
This is quite a surprising "best of". After the 1980's best of, which had quite an unimaginative track list I was expecting something similar for the 90's collection, but that's not the case. Overall this is an interesting buy for U2 fans, but perhaps not the best purchase for a casual fan (try instead the excellent "Achtung Baby").
There are several notable ommissions ("Walk on", "Elevation", "Please"), 4 of the tracks appear in an inferior remixed form (especially "Discoteque"), and there are a couple of tracks that I'm surprised made it on (especially "Gone"). However on the plus side, there are some tracks which highlight U2 at their best - "One", "Stay", "The Fly", and "Beautiful Day" are all present and correct, and the compilers should get extra marks for including the non single "Until the end of the world" - one the best 90's U2 tracks.
The 2nd CD is (like the 1980-1990 best of) a collection of b sides, this time focussing (although not exclusively) on remixes. This is well worth buying if you are a fan, especially for Butch Vigs remix of "Dirty Day" which really brings out the anger in the song, the classic perfecto mix of "Even better than the real thing" and "Your blue room", an ignored gem which first appeared on the passengers album.
