5-star music, 4-star transfer.,
This review is from: Carolina County Ball (Audio CD)
The music's great: enough said.
This CD is the only way to get 'Trying To Burn The Sun' on CD. 'Carolina County Ball' was available in the USA but that has been discontinued. Unfortunately, the transfer of 'CCB' on 'RJD: The Elf Albums' is not as good as that on the stand-alone, sounding slightly, I don't know, more 'distant'. However, that's not to say that it is bad: I simply prefer the transfer on the stand-alone. What is unfortunate is that 'TTBTS' has what seems most likely to be a tape-flaw at the start of 'Liberty Road', briefly warbling. Briefly, but noticeably, especially to those of us who had the vinyl. This is unusual from the Connoisseur label, which admirably handled releases from the Deep Purple family tree. This CD was released in 1991 and maybe the technology (or budget) was not then in place to rectify a fault with the tape used as the source for this release. Giving the label the benefit of the doubt, I have docked just the one star. The release comes with extensive sleeve-notes, as was Connoisseur's wont.
