I don't really like landlines now that more or less everyone has mobiles. Unfortunately, in my new house there is no reception at all (unless I'm upstairs dangling out of a window). Even so, I resisted getting a landline phone for over a year because the existing socket is in the hallway and would wake up baby Jennifer when it rang.
This twin pack allows you to turn off the ringer in the base, handset or both. Therefore the master unit in the hallway is muted while handset 2 is in the kitchen where it cant wake up baby. The ring has a volume on a scale of 0-5 where 5 is the loudest. It is loud too, so hard of hearing people should be able to hear it.
The phone is easy to use with a simple menu system. The handset can store 50 numbers and the buttons can all be programmed for speed dial. Unfortunately they are not cleverly linked, so programming numbers into one handset won't replicate into the second handset.
On the master base is a "find" button that will make the phones ring, so if you have lost one down the side of the sofa you can find it again.
I only gave 4* because the ringtones are all awful. There's no Mozart, Beethoven or anything. Just 5 "beepy" tones that sound like a ZX Spectrum computer loading a game from a tape in 1984.
I was sad to discover that landlines are still stuck in the pre-mobile era. For names to be displayed when they call you, you need to enable "caller display" with your provider, it is not a standard feature.
Overall, as a package of simplicity, convenience and value, this two pack is brilliant.
