Dalek Empire Series 2 Episode four - EXTERMINATE!,
This review is from: Dalek Empire 2.4 - Dalek War Chapter Four (Doctor Who S.) (Audio CD)
First released in 2003, this is the fourth and final episode in the second series of standalone releases for the Daleks from the Big Finish team. It is not a standalone release and has to be listened to in conjunction with the other episodes for it to make sense. It's just over an hour long, and is on a single disc. As with the first series I just love the retro art work.
The episode opens rather frustratingly. At the end of episode three we were left with a major cliffhanger, but this is totally ignored at the start of this episode as the action shifts to some time in the future and explains the enigmatic framing device that has been used for the preceding episodes. This sets up the action for series three. It is sometime into the episode before we pick up the story of Kalendorf, Suze and Alby. It's an interesting and effective device, setting up more questions and keeping us in suspense. The main sotry, when it comes, is absolutely amazeballs. IT's a powerful conclusion to the series as Kalendorf faces the Mentor, and sets in motion a plan to rid the Galaxy of the original Daleks. The end of the story, when it came, had me absolutely gripped and almost in tears for the tragedy of Kalendorf, that most noble of warriors who never quite managed to achieve his ultimate desire.
It's a powerhouse rollercoaster of a ride that left me feeling quite drained. This has been another excellent Dalek series, and sets things up very nicely for a new series with a different set of characters. 5 stars.
