The main reason I got this book was because it had all the stories I loves as a child. Red riding hood, Jack and the beanstalk, the three little pigs and the three bears.
The book itself is quite old fashioned, both in the simplistic images and the writing style. I really like the way the images are drawn, simple and using few colours but effective and reminding me of some of the books I had as a child.
The writing style is my only negative for the book. Some quite long and fragmented sentences makes it more difficult for me to read to my kids. There are a few points I had to stop and think about the sentence structure to ensure I was reading it out properly. This is not a book that I would say is really suitable for children to read themselves as it's a little tricky.
As for the stories, they are great. Some people mention how they are too harsh, but I disagree. The only contentious points would be the three pigs where the last pig catches the wolf in his pot and eats him. And in red riding hood the wolf is killed before he gets to eat red riding hood. This isn't something that bothers me or upsets my kids. It's not like they have changed them to be shocking, it's just the original stories as intended.
Overall a great book and a great way for the older generation to takes nostalgic trip while passing on some classic stories to the kids.
