I'm glad I bought this book - it was low priced - and I scanned through it in 20 minutes - I shall be back to study bits in more detail. It gives worked examples of a whole pile of things you can do with a Raspberry Pi - however if you know nothing, it reads more like a 'when you grow up will be able to do stuff like this' kind of book although it does point to instruction manuals/books liberally throughout.
There are a lot of simple worked examples you can copy, and a whole pile that are too complex to emulate on any basis but blind faith - then you get a taste is all. Nothing to feel too self satisfied about.
The authors first language isn't English I'm guessing, "In this scenario, we need 3 resistor." ... but you get used to that quickly and it doesnt get in the way.
It does fire the imagination somewhat, has loads of pictures/examples and for a first read it doesn't talk down to the reader at all.
