Fine so far,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Family Tree Maker for MAC v2 (Mac) (CD-ROM)
I've delayed purchasing FTM for Mac2 for quite a long time since the early feedback was decidedly mixed. However, it loaded easily and recognised my various files without difficulty. In use it looks and feels exactly the same as v1. The stand out feature is 'synchronisation' - the ability to make automatic, real time changes to files/trees you have uploaded to Ancestry's servers, by changing the file on your desk top. So far that has worked smoothly. Last evening I downloaded a significant update so the current version is FTM for Mac 2, 188.8.131.522. That seems stable.
I like FTM and have used various versions of it on Mac and PC for several years. The interface looks complicated - and is at first - but it is quite easy to get to grips with and you'll get the essential basics in an hour or so. The supplied Handbook is excellent and there is plenty of great web based support too. Within the software there are some superb features which you don't need to worry about at first but which you'll find that you want to get to grips with in due course. The 'Sources' feature is the obvious example. Many trees I have seen are shoddily/inadequately sourced, i.e. the trail to evidence on which the facts might be based is missing. 'Sources' enables you not just to provide the trail but to keep all the criss cross of trails neat and tidy. Similarly, it is very easy to upload images. You don't need to do it at first but once you have entered some of your treasured, basic information you'll be keen to include pictures and copies of documents.
Highly recommended for novice and experienced alike.
