4.0 out of 5 stars Large Box, 23 Nov 2009
This review is from: Star Trek: Legends of the Final Frontier Collection [DVD] (DVD)
The first thing that struck me when i opened this set is its size. Its pretty large in the days of silm line box sets, about 9 inches by 9 inches (8 inches tall) and dominates my DVD collection. The box top lifts off to show the 11 dvd boxes side by side (the 11th box being the extras). No inserts in the boxes which is a shame.

It contains all star trek movies from 1-10 as described, they are the theatrical versions and not the extended versions. Each film has the language options of English / French / German (bar the extras disc, this is English only). All Discs have subtitles as well, including on the commentary, in the following languages;

Subtitle languages - English / English for hearing impaired / Danish / Dutch / Finnish / French / German / Norwegian / Swedish

Commentary Subtitle languages - English / German / French

In short, pretty box, good movies, slightly disapointing extras. If you are a fan who dosnt currently have the DVDs, its a good price to get them.

Are you sure that Italian is not on the discs? I have read otherwise. Could you please check? Thanks!

How about the german language option? Is it Dolby Digital 5.1?

In reply to an earlier post on 24 Jul 2010 16:26:46 BDT
I've had a look at its a mix,

The following are 5.1 EX in English only and Surround in German/French - The Motion Picture, The Wrath of Khan, The Search for Spock, The Voyage Home.

The following are 5.1 EX in English only and 5.1 in German/French - The Final Frountier, The Undiscovered Country.

The following are 5.1 in English, German and French - Generations, First Contact, Insurrection, Nemesis.

Great! I would have had all of the Star Trek films if Play.com (yes Amazon I'm a traitor) didn't screw up my orders. I ordered the special 2-disc editions and only got five out of the ten because they messed my order up so I cancelled it. Since then I have been trying to get them but prises have been all over the place. But with this boxset it's great because of it being so cheap. Currently £27 for all of the films. Wow! I think I'll get rid of the 2-disc ones and get this. I love special features but for Star Trek I just watch it, I don't really care for special features for ST because it's just so "special" itself

You can bet that in a while, the company will publish another set with the special editions included. It's their usual MO: Milk the buyers with publications that gradually contain more and more (extras, extended cuts etc.), usually at the price of the former releases with less in them. Unless you're in a hurry or not interested in the extended cuts, I'd wait.
