A capable, competent product,
This review is from: Samsung BD-P1580 Blu-Ray Player - Black (Accessory)
Taking into account the low price Samsung produced a decent product with the BD-P1580. If Amazon ran a policy of offering 10 stars rather than 5 then I'd choose 7 however if I feel the product rating warrants being 'rounded up' then I will hence the 4 stars.
I've used the Samsung for over a year now, due to it coinciding with a house move it was purchased on a paltry £450 budget to go with an LG LCD. In hindsight I wished I'd of forked out an extra bullseye and gone for either Panasonic's DMP-BDT110 or Sony's BDP-S370, these are frankly better products possessing the 'wow factor' that this Samsung lacks.
Still, the Samsung does do an adequate job of presenting Blu Ray's & upscaling DVD's. Interestingly some fare betters than others in the sense that at one end of the spectrum you have DVD's almost looking at Blu Ray standard and then in contrast it clinically shows up some DVD's limitations in an excessive way.
Sound again is acceptable however on occassion instead of merely summoning the necessary attack it can get a little carried away (particularly boomy during action movies) not something which is great for late night movie watching.
The remote is a bit of a clunker and could have been more ergonomically designed however the machine itself is rather unobtrusive and is as light as a feather.
If you can get a good deal on this machine it's a fairly safe bet however as previously mentioned if you're prepared to spend a bit more, you'll ultimately get what you pay for.
