Design before function,
This review is from: De'Longhi Brillante Faceted Jug Kettle, 3 Kilowatt - Black (Kitchen & Home)
This is a beautiful kettle, and if its sole purpose were to complement the appearance of my kitchen, I would have nothing to criticise. I like the way it swivels, and though right-handed myself I can appreciate that it is great that it will suit left-handers also. It pours well with that sharp spout, and cleans easily. It boils quickly, too. So far, five stars...
BUT...I really have to look hard to check I have actually switched it on as the light is quite small and unobtrusive. More to the point, it seems to take a long time for the steam pressure to build up and switch the kettle off when it boils. I try to be next to it so i can switch it off myself, otherwise I get a lot of steam going into my cupboards, far more than with previous kettles. I partially get round this problem by bringing the kettle well forward, towards the front edge of the worktop. This is okay for me who has no young children, but might not be a safe option for anyone with toddlers who might reach up and end up scalding themselves. I could put it on the hob cover, and turn on the extractor everytime I boil the kettle, but I don't want to clutter that particular area as I use it for food prep and, of course, cooking. Yes, I know I am a sad person...
