The best single of the 21st Century, so far!,
This review is from: Freak Like Me (Radio Edit) [CD 1] (Audio CD)
The Sugababes in their previous incarnation were pretty damn good- now they've got even better...This song, which fuses Gary Numan's 'Are Friends Electric?' in a bootleg fashion (though not silly & hidious like 'Bootylicious' & 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'- talk about a classic being ruined by dross- the Child ought to take out a hit on Cobain...). It reminds me of early hip-hop, when Afika Baambaata fused AC/DC with James Brown, Gary Numan with Funkadelic and the seminal 'Planet Rock' single. The fresh notions of sampling as seen on '3 Feet High & Rising'or 'Blue Lines' that were eradicated by the heavy hand of publishing companies. Gary Numan should take this as a great compliment...What's great about it is that it takes the original and takes it somewhere new. My only quibble is that, like any classic pop song, you don't want it to end. This is the best single of the 21st Century so far; enjoy.
