For years I've lusted after a pizza stone but always considered it an extravagance (do I really need another superfluous kitchen gadget?) but 2 weeks ago I finally caved and bought one. After years of eating below par home cooked pizzas, I can honestly say this was well worth the investment, I finally get the fluffy crust I normally only experience in a restaurant. Ive also recently discovered the perfect pizza crust recipe too (Julie Hasson's easy peasy pizza crust from Vegan Pizza, google it, it really is good.) So far, I'm very impressed. I've used it for baking other things too, like onion rings and frozen potato products. Take good care of it, don't use soap, just rinse with warm water.
Unfortunately I had to spend an additional £15 on a pizza paddle because it is virtually impossible to transfer a heavily made up pizza onto the hot stone without one (I did try, it was messy!). The stone must be put in a cold oven and then heated up with the oven. I haven't got sliding the pizza onto the hot stone down to a fine art yet but I'm working on it, guess I'll have to make a lot more pizza!
