Pretty good - certainly original,
This review is from: Costello Music (Audio CD)
I'm not as big a fan of this album as most of the other reviewers seem to be, but I will say that it's very original and at its best stands out amongst the indie music released in the last couple of years.
I think what pulls the score down for me is that while the band have a lot of ideas musically, it's fair to say that some of them work really well and some of them don't. But it's to their credit that they're willing to give them a go and I suspect they're a band to watch for in the future.
Stand out tracks are probably the singles: 'Henrietta', 'Chelsea Dagger', 'Baby Fratelli' and, OF COURSE, 'Whistle for the Choir' which was probably my favourite song of last year. The rest of the cd is enjoyable enough, but to make it a true classic some of the other tracks should really have been of the same kind of quality as these four, which I don't think they strictly were.
Anyway, definitely worth a listen. And a band to keep your eye on.
