This review is from: Shakespeare's Unorthodox Biography: New Evidence of an Authorship Problem (Paperback)
Hyperbole by the covert agenda critiques does this interesting book few favours. The author has dutifully burned the midnight oil and produced a package of calm discussion. There is nothing that is actually new contained within it but the approaches to the examination and utility of its content make for an interesting read. The slant in terms of construction given to much of the content allows the reader to query as to why the rhetorical constitution applied to parts of the work would not have been better replaced by broadening the the cover to include a few more "whereas it may be seen that..." style expansions.
documentary evidence is undoubtedly a powerful weapon in the research armoury but that appertaining to Shakespeare has to be exhaustively compared, contrasted. contextualized, and sifted within the milieu of other forms of evidence and material. So in that respect this book most certainly deserves to be stewing in the Shakespeare sauce.
