Excellent guide - a few more pictures and maps would make it even better,
This review is from: Iceland (Bradt Travel Guides) (Paperback)
I came across Brandt guides when looking for a guide to the Faroe Islands. In the case of those islands it's very much a case of take it or leave it: there just isn't that much choice. I warmed to the guide though: not as well known as the Time Outs, Lonely Planets et al, but very good all the same. The Icelandic title is just as good though there is a greater range of alternatives in this case. However, I have to say this is one of the best. It's very detailed and very authoritative and - perhaps more importantly - very accurate.
Could I criticise it? Only on a couple of small points. It could do with more illustrations. This is definitely an old school guide where the text is, as I've said, detailed and thorough. It's not a glossy DK type photo-led title. But a few more illustrations of the features would not go amiss. Likewise maps of locales would go down well. But that's almost nitpicking. If you want to really find out about this fascinating country, this is the guide to go for.
