Avoid buying this printer unless you want constant headaches,
This review is from: HP Hewlett Packard Officejet 6310 All-in-One Fax/Copier/Printer/Scanner (Electronics)
I purchased this printer through Amazon in March 2008 for £121.95 and have thus spent 11 months getting to know the printer and my short review is therefore not hastily put together. The 'HP 6310 all in one' is my 4th HP printer and after tolerating the unrelenting problems of my latest buy I can't believe I have been so stupid to give HP more of my money. I spent several days reviewing various printers before deciding the HP6310 was the best printer for my needs - running a small business coupled with an interest in photography.
Well, what can I say? From day one, the printer has jammed, chewed and swallowed paper (including photographic paper which costs an arm and a leg to replace) and indeed I cannot exaggerate this point. Approx, 1 sheet of paper in 8 jams....which also means more ink is being used and wasted (also expensive). The photographic quality of prints is darn awful (ranging from lines, shadows, roughness and pixel effects on white, black and colours)...since purchasing this printer, I have been unable to frame or mount a single photo. Indeed, the 'jamming problem is so serious, that the machine has to be hand fed each individual sheet of paper. Moreover, unless a sheet of paper is pulled clear after printing it is then sucked back into the feed mechanism to cause yet another jam.
As for the HP photographic Suite - absolute rubbish - it constantly crashes my PC, which most recently resulted in the complete loss of over 1200 precious photos, which had been stored in a separate place on my hard-drive. What's more, the actual editing facilities available in the HP Suite are basic and controlling.
I could ramble for hours about the horrendous problems associated with HP 6310, but I shall refrain. Other than to say, I lost all will to use the built-in fax machine, the b&w copier is acceptable and I am still open to debate regarding the scanner. Oh and the ink cartridges are costly - this is not a value for money printer.
My advice after using this printer for 11 months - avoid it at all costs. I have been committed to HP and feel cheated and let down. A printer should deliver consistent and reliable results - HP6310 does not.
