1.0 out of 5 stars A clever concept with poor execution, 15 Jan. 2009
This review is from: We Need To Talk About Kevin (Paperback)
Having not heard a bad word said against it I had high hopes for this book, but I was greatly disappointed. The whole novel is ruined by a whiny protagonist. Ok, her son has gone bonkers at school with a gun and ended up in juvi. Furthermore her husband has left her. But I still could not muster any sympathy for her. The book is written in the form of letters to her ex-husband that are so overly sentimental and vomit inducing. "Oh my dearest darling..." - you get the picture. In painful detail they disect where things may have gone wrong and frankly I could stomach it no longer; I flicked to the end and returned it to the library in disgust. Don't bother.

WARNING SPOILERS

In future when you review a book have the decency to have read it first instead of making it up as you go along. One of the main points of the book was tha Kevin didn't go 'bonkers' he spent months planning the killings and was very calm and collected, he didn't use a gun he used a crossbow, and he wasn't her X husband he was her dead husband.

So you didn't read the book then? The instrument of murder was a crossbow, and then the nasty little "twist" at the end would explain why she's so sentimental in her letters.
