5.0 out of 5 stars Exellent Ice Warrior's Lost Story Audio Adventure, 1 Dec 2013
This review is from: Lords of the Red Planet (Doctor Who: The Lost Stories) (Audio CD)
1)Another exellent audio adaption by the ever excellent John Dorney of a Tv script by Ice Warrior's creator Brian Hayles.
2)Frazer Hines & Wendy Padbury do a fine job of performing & narrating this audio adventure.
3)It's a origin Ice Warrior's story with a twist.

It's overlong in places & the paces dips a little in parts due to it's 3 hours running time.

Michael Troughton is Patrick Troughtons son & Michael has recently wrote his father's autobiography.

3x CDS Of a 6 part adventure, Running time 180 minutes approx, Trailer.

Wow this is an epic adventure.

At 3 hours long this origin of the Ice Warriors adventure is a excellent adaption to audio by the multi talented John Dorney who is also a actor in several Big Finish audio adventures.

Adapted from Brian Hayles Tv scripts John Dorney has crafted a story of mystery as this focuses on the planet Mars were the Second Doctor, Jamie & Zoe arrive in the Tardis at a point in time were the Ice Warriors have yet to become the inhabitants of Mars but to the Doctors shocking discovery this isn't the case at all.

Deep below the planet's surface a scientist is working for a insane Despot whom is conjuring up a sinister scheme of ruling Mars with a terrifying familiar army of warrior's by his side.

What is Zaadurs plan?, What is the dark secret of the Gandoran mines & what lengths shall the Doctor go to if he is to save his companions?

The impending arrival of Ice Warriors as the Lords of the Red Planet are about to rise from below the surface & can anybody survive the Martian Warrior's uprising?

This is a brilliant action packed adventure that has the essence of a typical Second Doctor tv adventure which has a great intriguing plot about the origins of the Ice Warrior's backstory.

With a great adaption by John Dorney of Brian Hayles unused tv scripts converted into a narrative audio medium, John Dorney proves once again to be one of Big Finishes key writer's as here his adaption is full of drama & mystery has he has captured the characters of The Second Doctor, Jamie & Zoe to perfection.

The Ice Warriors are tailor made for audio with there whispering hissing voices that brings chills to the listener as we discover the Martian origins & how they came to be Lords of the Red Planet.

This adventure is a long one at 6 parts it runs to just over 3 hours & there are at times a few moments to the story that seem a little padded out to make the six episodes as it would've been a 6 parter if it had been originally made for the tv series.

But this is a minor gripe & these lost Second Doctor storys are becoming something of a Gem & a must buy for fan's of the Second Doctor era.

Sadly the Lost Stories is about to come to a end with The Mega a Third Doctor lost tv story & then that's yer lot I'm afraid.

But as this story proves there saving the best Lost Stories till last & this final series of Lost Stories will at least go out hopefully on a high.

Timelord Rating.

It's a pity their plans to adapt the Children of January never came to pass. I don't think we'll ever get to know much about that one

Great review timelord007 - hope my positive sticks.
This sounds like a very intriguing story, I think it will have to go on to my 'must get' list.
I think the Ice Warriors, like the Draconians and the Ogrons were some of the best alien creations from the classic era.
