4.0 out of 5 stars Its certainly big!, 10 April 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Garmin Universal Friction Mount for 700/600/300/200 series (Electronics)
From looking at the picture I thought this had some sort of suction mount underneath and panicked when it arrived as it seemed huge. Unpacking it revealed I'd been wrong and it is basically a very heavy beanbag which squats on your dashboard like a toad.
Took it for a spin and tried to shift it by some heavy braking but it just sat there and grinned at me.
Looks like my one complaint about the Nuvi 310 has been answered.
I'll update to 5 stars if it behaves itself and if I can get it through the airport when I next travel to the UK and hire a car! Apparently its filled with small steel balls.
UPDATE - Got it through customs with no problems and it did its toad thing on the hired Renault dash. Nuvi had some slight screen tremor at times as not so isolated from vibration as when stuck to the windscreen but not distracting and the roads do need repairing!
Should now be a five star review but seems I can't amend that bit.

I found your review confusing. The title states that it's big. The first sentence states that it's big. Then you write that you were wrong ... you mean it's not big ?

From the product photo I was expecting something about the size of my GPS but when the box arrived it was about a foot square by about 6 inches deep. Fortunately and when unpacked the unit itself was a little smaller, measuring 8 inches by 7 and about 4 inches tall.
So, it was bigger than I expected but not as big as the packaging suggested!

I assume that if this is filled with ss balls it is quite heavy? This might be a bit of an issue when travelling on airlines today with their measly baggage allowance!

Hi Mary,
The bag weighs in at 567g so it depends on how much you overpack when travelling! I tend to carry the whole sat nav unit as hand luggage if I'm hiring a car so that I can get going without unpacking. Haven't upset customs yet so I guess they're used to seeing all sorts of weird gadgets these days.

only good for portability (1 car to another) and on uneven surface dashboard.
But to use it for a permanent car, i used the Garmin Dashboard Disk/Disc
that comes with the unit and this is very neat and brilliant! Great stuff!!
