Definitve classics in best sound quality,
This review is from: The Essential (Audio CD)
Dionne's output from the 1960s has been re-released many many times (partly I recall due to doubtful copyright), but I have not heard it in such splendid audio quality as this. I know these songs inside out and I was picking out instruments and background arrangementts that I had never heard before. All Music Club Deluxe issues that I have purchased have great sound, and at a real bargain price.
The 1960's tracks speak for themselves - these songs will live on for generations, and although other artists may have had the British hits with most of these songs, they were mainly written for Dionne and these are the definitve versions.
Nice to get a good selection of her hard to find 1970s output too on CD2 as well.
There is minimal overlap with the same label's "All The Love in the World: The Dionne Warwock Collection" which covers her later period. Buy both sets for less than a £10 and you really do have the best of Dionne.

I've read some negative comments on amazon.com about the sound quality on UK releases of Dionne Warwick's sixties material, particularly with regard to Music Club and this release - Dionne Warwick Sings the Bacharach & David Songbook (ASIN: B000007WQB).You say the audio quality on this release is splendid but to the best of your knowledge is it an improvement on previous Music Club releases? Or, are the negative comments from our American friends unjustified?

I have not heard the release you refer to which was out together nearly a decade ago but reading the reviews of that release, I would say this must be a substantial step up in quality of the 60s recordings and taken from a better source. I didn't comment on the 70s recordngs on CD 2 and one or two of those could have been better, but if you are buying it for the 60s recordings I really do recommend this

I took your advice and purchased this set and I have to say I am delighted I did as the sound quality really is excellent.I did notice the Rhino logo on the back insert and perhaps this time Music Club were able to get access to the original master tapes hence the improved sound.

Have you heard this release yet? I'd be interested in your comments on the mastering on this release if you have.
