This review is from: Playing the Game (Paperback)
I must agree with most of the other reviewers here. This is a comfortable read (read this on a train to London actually) but nothing particularly new from Belle. Her first book is by far the best and a recommended insight into the world of sex working. This is described as a "novel" but keeps with the diary tradition of its two predecessors with brief entries. The main issues Belle tackles in this instalment are dilemmas with dating (quite funny in parts), tackling a day job and cutting her cloth (or underwear budget) accordingly and dealing with difficult relationships (family members, a token girlfriend and an equally manipulative work rival). Often women who are only friends with men tend to bore me as they harp on about "how they don't connect with women" (probably because the attention is off them given competition!) but with Belle it feels as if you can be more forgiving and accepting given her dabbling in escort work and brutal honesty on this issue. All 3 books appear to illustrate how you need to develop a tough exterior and be hypervigilent. This seems evident in her words and actions. Her acerbic wit and no nonsense approach to her potential suitors is excellent, as is her scoring on potential for being a boyfriend, lover or client. If you have enjoyed Belle's books and blog, and don't mind straying from call girl to mainstream culture, then you will probably enjoy this also. As one previous reviewer astutely pointed out though, they are better to be read sequentially so you can follow the characters and events.
